Lahainaluna ʻOhana,
On behalf of the entire staff, I would just like to thank you for all the kind words and understanding we received last week. It was difficult for all of West Maui to witness the fire, but the outpouring of concern for the school again highlighted the importance of Lahainaluna and its special place in the hearts of the community. We cannot show enough gratitude to our firefighters, many of whom were Lahainaluna graduates, for their skill and courage. Again, thank you everyone.
As the fire subsided, we were able to return to somewhat normal operations. On Thursday, Boarding students and the Boarding Association held a blessing and replanting of the orchard on upper campus. It was a fantastic and heartwarming ceremony signaling the revitalization of the Boarding program. We would like to especially thank Mahi Pono for all their support throughout the process.
Friday we hosted Aiea in a State football playoff game, and although it didn’t turn out how we all had hoped, the boys played hard and made us proud. I would like to thank the entire team, coaches, and support staff for their commitment the entire season. They serve as an example and inspiration for us all in having high expectations, working as a team, and eschewing individualism for the greater good.
Our girls’ basketball team had a successful week on Oahu getting their preseason started, and on Saturday the boys’ JV soccer team hosted a tournament on the field. The weekend concluded with an amazing Fall Concert in the gym on Sunday night. The Jazz Band was popping, the Choir absolutely amazing, and Symphonic and Concert Bands exceptional. All these events just reinforced how resilient and extraordinary our students truly are. Have a wonderful week everyone.
Be safe. Be kind. Imua Lahainaluna!
