Letter from Principal Carosso: Afternoon Central Maui Bus Service

Lahainaluna 'Ohana,

Attached is the letter from State I was asked to send to our McKinney-Vento (MV - unstable housing) eligible students who have been relocated out of Lahaina and have registered for bussing from Central Maui. It details an option for afternoon busing on a DOE specific bus from campus home for students. While the option of the shuttle to Cannery Mall right after school for connection to a County bus still exist, this alternative option is meant to provide relief from overcrowding in afternoons and potential long wait times.

If you have been relocated from your homes and qualify for the Central bus service and have not yet registered, please see the MV1 application attached. Make sure the address is the student's current address, not the one from pre-fire. Also, check the Shelter box and write "displaced due to Maui fires" for name of shelter, and return to the school.

I completely understand and share you frustrations and concerns over a bus route from Central Maui. Our problem highlights a greater island, state, and nationwide issue with busing for public school students. I do appreciate you voicing your concerns to the school, and assure you we our adding our input to yours as we continue to advocate for our students.
