On Saturday November 16th 2024, Lāhaināluna High School blessed `Ōpelu Māmā, their new canoe donated by TS restaurants. This canoe is the connection to the place-based fishing community and the story of the barracuda, a protector, who will work to protect the keiki in this canoe for many seasons to come.
The Maui Strong Paddling fund was able to further support LHS by paying for the transport of`Ōpelu Māmā safely to Maui and the gear to keep this strong protector well cared for: rigging rope, covers, storage, and saddles. Additionally, youth Toa Pere made a huge donation that was used in March to pay for two ergs with paddling attachments so the high schools could learn technique and train. Mahalo to the Maui Paddling Hui, TS Restaurants, the Maui Strong Paddling Fund, Toa Pere and many others for your generous gift!
I mua Lahainaluna!
