Lahainaluna High School National Honor Society News
Are you familiar with the National Honor Society?
To be eligible to apply for membership for this school year, you must CURRENTLY be a Junior or Senior and carry a minimum of a 3.7 cumulative grade point average. Candidates who meet this initial criteria are invited to apply for admission. The application details your academic awards and honors, community service activities and the leadership positions held, both in and out of school but ONLY from your freshman year forward.
After the application deadline (no lae applications will be selected) teachers are asked to evaluate the students that they know based on leadership, character and community service. Finally, a faculty advisory committee reviews the students’ applications and teacher input, and determines which candidates will be offered membership to NHS which must be formally accepted.
After induction into NHS, members are required to participate in all NHS sponsored community service activities, as well as to complete at least one individual service project each quarter. Given the situation with Covid 19, community service will look different this year.
Should you have the minimum required cumulative GPA and wish to apply for membership to the National Honor Society, please respond to the email you received from Ms. Olson last week, or email her directly ([email protected]) and request an application. You will receive a fillable PDF to complete.
Applications will be due on September 9, 2020. Late and/or incomplete applications will not be considered.
