Aloha LHS Students and Parents/Guardians,

The Department of Education is following the Department of Health preventative measure of not exceeding the threshold of 100 people for public events or large gatherings. Regrettably, the Lahainaluna High School Junior Prom scheduled for Saturday, March 28, 2020 at the Sheraton Maui is canceled.

"The Hawaii Department of Health (DOH) issued COVID-19 guidance on Friday, March 13, regarding public events and group gatherings. As a result of this guidance, HIDOE will be canceling Department-coordinated events that meet this criteria until updated guidance is provided by health officials."

There are currently no plans for postponement of the event. If you had originally planned to take a guest that is a non-Junior or non-LHS student, please be sure to also notify them of the cancellation of the event so that they may plan accordingly.

We sincerely apologize for the great inconvenience that this will cause students and families. Payment for prom will be refunded when students report back to school after the extended Spring Break.

Effective Immediately, all interscholastic competition will be suspended indefinitely based on the evolving COVID‐19 public health threat. All student-athletes should check with their coaches to see if there are still practices during this time period. Please check the attached JPG or PDF for more detail. Mahalo!

Congratulations to the Lahainaluna High School Science Olympiad Team as
they garnered outstanding medal recognition at the recently concluded 10th Maui Regional Science Olympiad Tournament which was held last February 1, 2020 at UH Maui College. Jadelyn Fujii and Joseph Winkie garnered first place for the Boomilever event, Arabella Silao and Andrew Nguyen bagged second place for the Anatomy and Physiology event, while Chassidy Tadeo and Stephanie
Garcilazo got 3rd place for the Pingpong Parachute. "The experience I got from
participating in this tournament motivates me to join again next year and would
like to try the Sound of Music event," says Chassidy Tadeo. Maui Mayor Michael
Victorino and UHMC Chancellor Dr. Lui Hokoana presented the awards.

The PTSA is excited to announce that Lahainaluna High School has four State Level Reflections winners, including TWO first place winners. All state level winners will be receiving an invitation to attend the annual Hawaii State PTSA Reflections Awards Banquet, on April 18th, at the Ala Moana Hotel, on Oahu.



The first place winners’ entries are now being prepared to move forward to the National Level of judging. We wish these artists the best of luck as they compete with other entries from across the country.

In FILM PRODUCTION: High School Division: 1stPLACE – Veronica Lara and 3rdPLACE – Siranny Lopez
In MUSIC COMPOSITION: High School Division: 2ndPLACE – Odin Hall

The PTSA would like to congratulate all of this year’s MAUI REGION Reflections Art Program winners. We are pleased to announce that 11 Lahainaluna High School student entries have been selected represent the Maui region in the state level of judging. These student winners are:



· In the Visual Arts category: Julianna Beatrix Cruz, Cattibrie Dickie, and Neysha Fuentes

· In the Photography category: Tobey Mizuno, Adrian Benito, and Kekailoa Cajudoy

· In the Film Production category:Veronica Lara, Siranny Lopez, and Alicia Gilmore

· In the Music Composition category: Odin Hill

· In the Dance Choreography category: Kaithlyn Quintero Solorzano

Juniors registered to take the ACT test on February 8, please make sure your photo was uploaded to the ACT website and print your admissions ticket. You have until January 31st to upload your photo, if you miss the deadline your registration will automatically be cancelled by ACT. If you need help uploading your photo please see Miss Kristy immediately.

Please remember you must bring your admission ticket and photo Identification with you to the Feb. 8 test. If you do not bring the admission ticket or photo identification with you on Feb. 8, you will NOT be able to take the ACT test.
